Introduction, hello

Marcus, my professor for Agcom420, has insisted that each member of the class create a blog. Throughout the semester, we'll be required to write weekly, read one another's blogs, post comments and conduct class discussions. The topic of the blogs is whatever we choose. Marcus, for example, after a negative experience at McDonald's, started a blog only to complain about customer service.

I decided that MY blog will be about literature.

I am the first child of four, which means I got a LOT of individualized attention (until age 2 1/2, when brother #1 was born). My parents spent hours upon hours reading to me, and as soon as I learned to read myself, I was off like a rocket, devouring all reading material in site.

In the beginning, it was a lot of childrens books and beginner chapter books. As I matured, so did my literary preferences...The Chronicles of Narnia morphed into The Lord of the Rings, Little House on the Prairie into Gone with the Wind and Scarlett, Dr. Suess into Shel Silverstein into Edgar Allen Poe, and Madeline L'Engle into Charlotte Bronte, Charles Dickens and Jane Austen.

For years, I've been meaning to start a list of books I read. My great Aunt did that, and upon her death we found notebooks full of book lists. She began chronicling her reading at about my age, and continued dutifully for nearly 70 years.

Since coming to college, my pleasure reading has been few and far between, but hopefully this will be the start of my book list. And, being a child of the digital age, my list will be web-based, where my aunt's was paper.

In addition to just listing the books I read (Marcus wouldn't be satisfied with just that!) I'll give a short review, and let the world know if I think it's worth a try.

Enjoy!
