I was gifted with books this Christmas. From mom and dad I got:
~Freakonomics (on my amazon wish-list, looking ahead to grad school in ag econ)
~100 words every word lover should know
~The Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey (not on my list, but the 'rents love Dave)
~Dickinson County, Kansas - A Pictorial History
~Eats, Shoots & Leaves - The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation (ha. that's what I get for being a journalist)
~And, a new Moleskin notebook, because I've nearly filled my old one.*
From my cousin Katie, a combination birthday and Christmas gift:
~The Prairie Girl's Guide to Life: How to sew a sampler quilt and 49 other pioneer projects for the modern girl. (Katie picks the best gifts, and this one is particularly hilarious. Many of the things in the book I already know how to do. Kate is from the city, and gets a kick out of my sewing, cooking, livestock, etc. skills.)
Other Christmas gifts include:
~Meet Me in St. Louis DVD (my FAVORITE movie of all time. It's Judy Garland at her best, pre-drug addiction)
~Pampered Chef cookie scoop
~Wireless, optical mouse
~A new silver wristwatch
~K-State Hoodie and Freezable Pilsner
Since my family didn't go anywhere for the holiday, I've had plenty of time to read, which has been the best gift of all. I re-read the entire HDM series, and another book by Garth Nix. Some people scoff at re-reading, but I'm a big advocate. You miss so much the first time. I read so much I've even forgotten entire books, so it's nice to enjoy them again. I kid you not - the first three Harry Potter Books I've read 20+ times. Sick, I know. That was before jobs, homework and other responsibilities.
*My aunt bought me my first Moleskin exactly two years ago, just before I left for Europe. I filled it with addresses, phone numbers, short journal entries, lists, rough maps & diagrams and even surface rubbings. It stays in my backpack when I'm at school and my purse when I'm not. I seldom go anywhere without it. Moleskins are wonderful, perfect for spur-of-the-moment inspirations. It will be interesting to see how many I fill as I go through life.
I hope everyone is having a safe, happy holiday season!

Moleskines are great. I really like the small ones, and have a few of the soft covers too. I'm still on the Amber Spyglass, looking forward to re-reading this series sometime.
Mine are small, like 5 inches tall. Do they make small ones with soft covers? The Moleskin I just filled, the binding was breaking, so I had to fix it with book tape. It had a rough life...used and abused across 10 countries in a year and half.
Which Garth Nix book did you read? Also Dickinson County, Kansas - A Pictorial History, I believe has a picture of my Father on the front cover burning a wheat stubble.
@dylan I read the first book in the Abhorsen trilogy I told you about. And, as we've already discussed, your dad is NOT on the cover of this particular book, but I've seen the book you're referring to - and that photo is awesome. It's very iconic of hard-working farmers everywhere.
