Freakonomics

I received Freakonomics as a Christmas gift, and have been slowly reading it since then. Reading a book over time has been interesting in itself, as I'm usually the kind of person who will stop everything to devour a good book. Unfortunately college doesn't lend itself to that situation.

I did finally finish though, just last week and I thought a review was in order. Overall Freakonomics is a good book, but I was expecting a little more meat and not so many random side dishes. This book reads more like a storybook and less like a study of economics, but I think that is what makes it so appealing to the general public. I had to read The World is Flat by Thomas Friedman, and I hated that book. I guess I'm looking for an all-encompassing econ text in between Freakonomics and TWIF.

In case you were wondering - the best Agricultural Economics text on the market is none other than Agricultural and Food Policy, written in part by Barry Flinchbaugh, a prof here at K-State. It's small, well-written and covers many non-agricultural topics. Great stuff.
